SOTU 2026

The GOP sent me a questionnaire about the State of the Union Address. It was very shallow, but I volunteeered the following to them:

While the "red meat" parts of the Prez' speech would appeal to many in the GOP who already are solidly in his corner, though probably not the Susan Collins RINO types, I believe the tone could have been much better and more statesmanlike, especially in the last portion, and especially for Independents and Fetterman Democrats, where he needs to stabilize support. I am an Independent who supports the President, but in talking to others who had voted for him before, I hear regret and criticism which I think would not be there due to policies, but rather tone. 

 

When the Dems sat during honoring heroic and human interest presentations, since Trump used to be a

Democrat and their darling, if in his shoes, I would have said something along the lines of:

 

"Back when I was a Democrat, the parties still had different ideas, but could come together on common interests. I saw that disappear and switched parties. Now you are witnessing that anything I say, they say the opposite. It is no longer arguing the details back and forth. You know that Abigail Spanberger (the very same one they picked to give an opposing speech after mine, which means they approve of and LOVE her approach) won based on a more moderate approach to the voters, knowing they would reject her had she been honest, but she shifted back into the rigid left-wing policies at warp speed immediately after taking office like others who play the same tired "Lucy and the Football" nonsense. DO not be another Charlie Brown. Take note of all those sitting today when decent Americans of BOTH Parties at home would be standing, and ask yourselves whether you would be among those who have stood for heroes and people who overcame so much. I am sure the answer is yes for most of you, my fellow Americans. Since these people sitting in front of you in plain sight are your representatives, they are not representing you in terms of basic human decency and values, and they have proudly shown themselves to you without me even having to tell you.  You have eyes. If you want to see more representatives stand for what you stand for at my next State of the Union Address in 2027, you need to replace the disrespectful sitters this November with people who will stand for what you would automatically stand for, and ask them to vote for legislation such as the SAVE Act, which is supported by over 80% of  Americans including a majority of Democrats but which not one of the House Congressional sitters would support. These folks want your vote, but want you to set aside your common sense, everything you learn at church or synagogue, and everything you talk about around your dinner table. I want your support for good people who WILL reinforce what you learn at your place of worship and are talking about around your own dinner table. If you simply stay home or pull the big Blue Lever out of habit without thinking about it, they will surely

emboldened to go even further in destroying American  culture and greatness, repeat the chaos they engaged in before, and turn us into a backwater country unworthy of any honor or leadership in the world."

 

This would not have taken any longer than repeating the insult-jabs, which unfortunately has made  even

reasonably conservative people who support the same policies a bit apprehensive. I look beyond those, and encourage others to as well, but the Prez could have made our defense of him a whole lot easier.
